MC@96:
5 Milestones in the History of MC
As Miriam College celebrates its 96th year in 2022, let's take a look back at the milestones that we have achieved throughout the years.
Foundation. The story of Miriam College starts in 1926, when the Sisters of the Maryknoll Congregation in New York established the Malabon Normal School in Malabon, Rizal. The school transferred sites several times until finally, in 1953, it laid down its roots in Diliman (or Loyola Heights), in Quezon City.
Striving to Raise Women Leaders. The school adopts a clear vision to promote women leaders who are "spiritually-vigorous, intellectually-cultured, social-minded...one with the courage and heroism to do what is right in the face of those who disregard the examples and teachings of Christ" (Sister Miriam Thomas, 1956).
The Birth of Miriam College. After a series of consultations, in 1989, Maryknoll is renamed Miriam College - the name by which MC is more commonly known today.
MC Nuvali and Alviera. From 2010 onwards, Miriam College has embarked on a journey of expansion and growth. Despite challenges, the school established Miriam College Nuvali in Laguna, just south of Metro Manila. In 2021, Miriam College proceeded its expansion, this time in the north, where a planned campus in Porac, Pampanga, dubbed Miriam College Alviera, is underway.
The COVID Pandemic and Knoller-Flex. While the COVID-19 Pandemic put a halt on onsite activities, Miriam College continued to deliver online learning through its innovative Knoller-Flex program. KNowledge and OnLine LEarning Resource (KNOLLER) is a learning portal where students can access and participate in their class activities.
